Zero One Technology has an ongoing relationship with Dimension Data to manage and maintain their worldwide Data Centre based in the City of London. (Dimension Data is a specialist IT services and infrastructure provider. They operate in over 30 countries on six continents and have received numerous industry awards. They are the leading Global Cisco Gold Partner in 22 countries and a Microsoft Gold Partner on 5 continents. 74% of the Global Fortune 100 and 54% of the Global Fortune 500 are Dimension Data clients).
The Brief
Due to space and temperature issues, Dimension Data needed to relocate their existing High Availability Data Centre. At the same time they needed to establish a new Disaster Recovery Centre at a separate location.
It was essential that downtime during the relocation was minimised for Dimension Data’s customers and their internal operations. They were looking for a supplier that could plan and manage the project, procure all the required hardware, build the new server environments and install the kit including all cabling.
Everything needed to be completed within aggressive timescales.
The Solution
Zero One planned and project managed every stage of the relocation. We sourced all the required hardware and implemented the build and installation at both the new sites. They key stages of the project were as follows:
- Planning the infrastructure and server environment and the relocation timetable.
- Procurement and installation of new APC server and network cabinets, including dual fed PDUs.
- Procurement and installation of patch frames for server and network patching
- Cabling the complete environment with CAT 6 and Fibre
- Moving servers from old hosting facility to the new sites.
- Procurement, preparation and deployment of new network and server hardware.
Zero One was able to consistently beat the costs and delivery times quoted by Dimension Data’s existing resellers. Using our rapid deployment processes, we were able to lay all 28km of CAT6 cabling within 48 hours. Fibre cabling was completed within one working day. 23 APC cabinets were delivered to site within 7 working days, where other suppliers had quoted 3-week lead times.
Server migration was completed by working exclusively at weekends to minimise downtime.
